Tedy's Team

Tedy Bruschi suffered a stroke in February 2005 at the age of 31, just weeks after winning his third Super Bowl and days after returning from playing in the Pro Bowl in Hawaii.  As he recovered, Tedy committed himself to being an advocate, spokesperson, and inspiration for stroke survivors in our area.

Tedy asked the American Stroke Association to work with him to create “Tedy’s Team,” a group of runners raising money for the American Stroke Association and training to complete the Boston Marathon® and the Falmouth Road Race.  Their participation supports Tedy Bruschi’s fight against stroke and honors both the survivors and the loved ones lost to America’s #3 leading cause of death.

In addition to the dollars being raised, an equally important issue for Tedy's Team is the increase in awareness of stroke and recognition of its warning signs.  Tedy’s Team is striving to reach as many people as possible in its message of recognizing the warning signs and acting appropriate when seeing them (i.e. calling 9-1-1 immediately).

Stroke Warning Signs:

Stroke is a medical emergency.  Know these warning signs of stroke and teach them to others.  Every second counts!

  • Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body.
  • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding.
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.
  • Sudden, severe headache with no known cause.

Call 9-1-1 immediately if you experience symptoms!  Time lost is brain lost!

The real finish line is an end to stroke.

While Tedy is excited to join us in raising awareness, and much-needed funds, to battle the number one cause of disability and the number three cause of death in the United States, he can’t do it alone.

He needs you to join “Tedy’s Team” and assist him at the line of scrimmage in the battle against stroke.  By joining Tedy’s Team, you can be a part of the fight against stroke in several different ways.

  • Raise funds by simply donating to Tedy’s Team.
  • Train and raise funds in honor of Tedy.
  • Train and raise funds in honor of or memory of your own stroke hero.

No matter how you choose to support Tedy’s Team, the important thing is that you make the choice to join the fight against stroke.

Tedy Bruschi is a champion both on the field and off.  He’s overcome great odds in his football career, and in his personal encounter with stroke.  You, too, can be a champion to everyone who’s faced or will face the debilitating effects of stroke.
