Help

The American Heart Association wants to help you find information quickly and easily. Here are some useful questions and answers.

How can I find my way around the site?
We've organized our site into several major sections that you can reach from the left side of each page. As you roll over each subject, the menu will expand to give you an overview of the site topics. You can always get back to the home page by clicking the Home link in the menu at the top of every page.

I still can't find the information I'm looking for. What now?
Try using our Search feature, located in the upper left corner of each page, just above the navigation bar. To search, simply type a word or phrase in the box and click the Search button.

How can I talk to a live person?
For American Heart Association inquiries, call 1-800-AHA-USA-1 (1-800-242-8721).

For American Stroke Association inquiries, call 1-888-4-STROKE (1-888-478-7653).

Why will I be asked to download files?
In order to improve the site's performance and make it easier for you to find what you're looking for, we've made some of our longer documents downloadable. You can print them out and take your time reading them (we know its not that much fun reading pages of text on your computer screen). Examples of files available for downloading include PDF files and Microsoft Word documents.

What is a PDF file and why do I need to download special software to view it?
PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file format that allows you to view and print out documents. You cannot change these documents, though. To view PDF files, you need the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. If you don't have it, you can download the free utility from Adobe's Web site. Once you've downloaded the program, it will start automatically whenever you want to view a PDF file.

My computer doesn't have Microsoft Word. Can I still read the Word documents on the site?
Yes. Most other word processing programs can read Word files. If yours cannot, you can download a free converter from Microsoft that will enable you to read Word documents.

We hope you learn a lot from our site. Remember, if you have additional questions you can send mail to us through the Contact link.
