Sisters Who Make a Difference.
In 1992, Doris and Mike Bomgardner were preparing to move into their new home in Mechanicsburg, Penn., where they planned to spend their retirement years. Tragically, their time together was cut short. Mike suffered a heart attack and died at age 64. After Mike's death, Doris and her sister, Peg Miller, joined the American Heart Association's fight against heart disease. They wanted to help the association carry out its mission, "Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke," by funding heart and stroke scientific research; advocating for heart-healthy public health policies on the federal and state level; and conducting educational outreach.
