Fellowship is reserved for council members who have been actively involved in the field of CV disease epidemiology or CV disease prevention. Fellowship provides a means to recognize and award leadership in the American Heart Association.

Eligibility
To be eligible for fellowship, candidates must be active Premium Professional members of the AHA and affiliated with the Council on Epidemiology and Prevention (EPI) at the time of nomination. An active member is described as a member whose dues are current.

Candidates must be nominated by an active Fellow of the council who is familiar with his/her work and is willing to write a supporting letter that clearly articulates how the candidate meets each of the criteria and involvement in the AHA. Persons listed as active EPI Fellows in the Membership Directory are eligible to nominate candidates for fellowship in the AHA and the council.  To access the AHA online membership directory:

1. Sign in with your my.americanheart.org username and password.
2. Select Member Services.
3. Under Membership Directory Search, select Advanced Search.
4. Select Council.
5. Under Member Type, select International Fellow or Fellows.

Criteria
The criteria for fellowship are established by the Leadership Committee in concert with the AHA’s Science Advisory and Coordinating Committee. Candidates for fellowship should be able to meet each of the criteria as defined. Please review the EPI Fellowship Nomination Form carefully for detailed explanation of the criteria and nomination process:

• Must have been actively involved in the field of cardiovascular disease epidemiology or CV disease prevention for at least five years.
• Must have made significant contributions to the field.
• Show significant and current service to the American Heart Association.
• Must be able to demonstrate involvement in clinical or community service on CVD epidemiology or prevention, or teaching in the field of CVD epidemiology or prevention.

Election
Fellows are elected by the Leadership Committee at their biannual meetings, and are officially recognized as Fellows of the American Heart Association at the Annual Council Dinner, which is held during the AHA Scientific Sessions.

Nomination Deadline
Nominations are accepted twice a year, and must be postmarked on or before Jan. 15 and Aug. 15. Nominations postmarked after these dates will be considered late and will be held until the next review cycle. Submit the completed nomination form and supporting documents to:

Annual Membership Dues
Fellows are required to maintain membership in the AHA/ASA at the Premium Professional level to remain an active Fellow in good standing. Emeritus Fellows are exempt from paying dues. Membership dues are due in January and July of each year.
