What Is Carotid Endarterectomy?

Carotid endarterectomy is surgery that removes harmful plaque from your carotid arteries. These two arteries supply your brain with blood and oxygen.  This information sheet describes what the procedure is, how it is done and recovery afterwards.  It also discusses other ways you can reduce your risk of stroke.
