Fellowship in the Council on Cardiopulmonary, Critical Care, Perioperative and Resuscitation

Fellowship is reserved for biomedical researchers, internists, cardiologists, pulmonary specialists, anesthesiologists, surgeons, critical and emergency care specialists, respiratory therapists, and healthcare professionals with a major and productive interest in cardiopulmonary disorders and whose accomplishments support the stated objectives of the American Heart Association.

Eligibility
To be eligible for consideration for Fellowship, candidates must be active Premium Professional or Premium Professional Plus members of the AHA and affiliated with the Council on Cardiopulmonary, Critical Care, Perioperative and Resuscitation (3CPR) at the time of application.

Candidates must be nominated by an active AHA Fellow, International Fellow or Emeritus Fellow who is affiliated with the  3CPR Council, and is familiar with his/her work and is willing to write a supporting letter that articulates how the candidate meets each of the criteria. View the most recent active AHA/ASA Fellows by name or council in the online Membership Directory.  To access the AHA online membership directory:

  1. Sign in with your my.americanheart.org username and password.
  2. Select Member Services.
  3. Under Membership Directory Search, select Advanced Search.
  4. Select Council.
  5. Under Member Type, select International Fellow or Fellows.

Criteria
The criteria for Fellowship are established by the Leadership Committee in concert with the AHA's Scientific Advisory and Coordinating Committee. Candidates must be alble to meet all of the stated criteria.  Please review the 3CPR Fellowship nomination form for detailed explanations of the criteria. Candidates must be able to:

  • Demonstrate evidence of leadership in and contributions to cardiopulmonary and critical care medicine through practice, research, education or care of patients.
  • Show significant and current involvement in the American Heart Association at the local, affiliate and/or national level(s).

Election
Fellows are elected by the Leadership Committee at its bi-annual meetings. Newly elected Fellows are acknowledged and receive their Fellowship Certificate at the AHA Scientific Sessions, which is held in November of each year.

Submission Deadline
Nominations must be submitted electronically as a complete packet, and must be received on or before the Feb. 1 or July 1 deadlines.  Incomplete nomination packets and hard copies will not be accepted and will be returned to the sender.  Complete nomination packets received after the deadline dates will be considered late and will be held until the next review cycle. Annual Membership Dues
To maintain active Fellowship status, Fellows and International Fellows are required to renew membership in the AHA annually at the Premium Professional or Premium Professional Plus level.  Emeritus Fellows are exempt from paying dues. Membership dues are due in January or July of each year.
