We are working everyday to save lives from America's No. 1 and No. 3 killers, heart disease and stroke. Our goal is to reduce risk, disability and death from heart disease and stroke by 25 percent by the year 2010.
Marissa Walker: A story of hope
Marissa Walker is an active eight-year-old girl and although she tires easily, she loves to run, swim, play and do all the things children her age do. Marissa was born with half a heart – a condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. She has undergone three open-heart surgeries and is at risk for congestive heart failure. The Walker family is hopeful for the next major medical breakthrough that could fix their daughters heart for good. Marissa’s story.
Shape Your Family History
While you are gathered with your family this holiday season, take the opportunity to discuss your family’s health history. The more you know about your health history, the more you can do to reduce your risk of heart disease and diabetes. Talk about ways that your family can work together to establish better lifestyle habits. It can be as easy as meeting at a local park once a week to go for a walk or going to a farmers market together to shop for fruits and vegetables. Download your Family History Tree document.
