Register for Professional Development Roundtable Luncheons
The Council on Epidemiology and Prevention has Professional Development Luncheons each full day of the meeting. Ten "expert roundtables" will be presented on both days on topics such as physical activity, genetics, statistics and strategies to obtain research funding. Attendance is open to conference registrants at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that registration is limited and will be closed when full.

Hotel Accommodations
The conference will be held at the Buena Vista Palace in Orlando, Fla. (www.buenavistapalace.com) This alluring Walt Disney World Resort® hotel is located across the street from the world-famous Downtown Disney®, with its vibrant shops, delicious restaurants and thrilling nightlife. The world-class amenities include three heated pools in a tropical setting, lighted tennis court, basketball court, sand volleyball, eight on-site restaurants and lounges, a European-style spa and a fully equipped fitness center. Preferred tee times are also available at Disney's five championship golf courses.
Transportation
We urge conference attendees to contact the American Heart Association travel desk (BCD Travel, Inc.) at (800) 999-9717 or (214) 360-6165, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. (CST). BCD Travel has arranged discounted air and car rental fares for conference attendees.
The Buena Vista Palace is located approximately 13 miles from the Orlando International Airport (approximately 30 minutes by car). Taxis and shuttles may be arranged at both the airport and hotel; the cost for taxis is approximately $47 each way.
Mears Transportation Group offers shuttle service to and from the Orlando International Airport. The van departs from Level One in both Terminals A and B approximately every 30 minutes. No reservations are necessary. The cost for adults is $19 one way and $31 round trip. The cost for children (ages 4-11) is $15 one way and $23 round trip.
Conference Description
The 47th Annual Conference on Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention, in association with the Council on Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Metabolism, is a scientific program that provides participants with the opportunity to learn current information about:

causes, mechanisms and risk factors for atherosclerosis and other vascular diseases
-
population trends in cardiovascular diseases and their risk factors
-
results of cardiovascular disease treatment and prevention trials
-
methods of population surveillance for cardiovascular disease and risk factors
-
techniques in preventive cardiology
-
the role of nutrition in cardiovascular disease
-
outcomes research in cardiovascular disease
A special program will be presented on March 3, 8 a.m.-noon, on the use of newer population genetic techniques, specifically the design, analysis and interpretation of genome-wide association studies, as applicable to cardiovascular epidemiology and prevention.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

Identify risk factors and population trends in cardiovascular disease and associated conditions, such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes.

Demonstrate analytical approaches to understanding the current management of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors.
-
Integrate into their activities information about results of cardiovascular disease treatment and prevention trials and their appropriate interpretation.
-
Apply methods for translation of epidemiologic findings to other research settings or clinical practice.
Intended Audience
The conference is for physicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, dietitians, nutritional scientists, exercise physiologists, psychologists, nurses, school health professionals and other health scientists, with a focus on trainees.
Council on Epidemiology and Prevention Awards
The Council on Epidemiology and Prevention will announce the winners of the award program at the Annual Reception and Dinner, scheduled for 7 p.m. on March 2.
Continuing Medical Education Accreditation - Physicians
The American Heart Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The American Heart Association designates this educational activity for a maximum of 18.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
All faculty participating in CME/CE activities sponsored by the American Heart Association will disclose to the audience (1) significant financial relationships with the manufacturer(s) of products or devices discussed in their presentation, and (2) unlabeled/unapproved uses of drugs or devices discussed in their presentation. Such disclosures will be made in writing in course presentation materials.
