Healthy Schools Program
With the help of an $8 million grant from the Robert Wood Foundation, the Alliance has launched a program to help schools provide healthier food options, more physical activity and staff wellness programs. Schools that meet set standards will receive bronze, silver or gold achievement awards.

Healthier Beverages for Students
Alliance and soft-drink industry leaders have announced guidelines to end school sales of beverages with more than 100 calories (except for high-nutrition milks and juices):
- Elementary schools will sell only water and eight-ounce servings of juice (with no added sweeteners) and fat-free and low-fat regular and flavored milk.
- Middle schools will sell those items in 10 oz. sizes.
- High schools will sell those items plus no-calorie and low-calorie drinks such tea, diet soda, sports drinks and flavored water. The maximum size will be 12 oz.
The guidelines, which will affect nearly 35 million students, are set to be implemented in 75% of U.S. schools by the 2008–09 school year.
Healthier Snacks in Schools
The new, science-based Dietary Recommendations for Healthy Children guidelines will provide kids with food and snack products that are lower in calories, reinforcing the nutrition lessons they learn at home and in the classroom about healthy, balanced diets.
The guidelines promote the consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nutrient-rich foods, fat-free and low fat dairy foods and place limits on calories, fat, saturated fat, trans fat, sugar and sodium. Campbell Soup Company, Dannon, Kraft Foods, Mars and PepsiCo will invest in product reformulation and new product development, while encouraging braoder support of the guidelines.
