North Dakota Employee-Based Wellness Program: Heart and Stroke Program Options

Thank you for your organization's interest in the American Heart Association and your commitment to the health of your employees.  We are providing you with these Employee Based Wellness Program options to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke within your organization.  Limit to 2 programs annually. Download and complete the North Dakota Worksite Wellness Program Request Form 2010.

Wear Red Day – February 5, 2010

    A.  Wear Red Day Toolkit online filled with downloadable materials at 
          www.goredforwomen.org/wearredday.        
    B.  Educate and motivate employees to take concrete actions to reduce
          their risk of heart disease.
    C.  Wear Red Day How To Guide with a list of activity options
         (Select at least four for implementation)
    D.  Collateral materials available (posters, red dress stickers, tribute
         cards, bookmarks)

“Start!”  Walking program
Implement the AHA Start! Walking program.  Components include
    A.  Health Message posters
    B.  Walking route icons to direct employees along your walking route
    C.  Mileage Tracking Tools to help employees track how far they walk
    D.  Walking Challenge:  Set goal to walk a set distance.  Example: the
          Lewis and Clark trail or to a different city such as Orlando Florida.
    E.  Hold a recognition event to celebrate milestone awards. 
    F.  Walking Program Goal Posters to help walking groups track their 
         progress.

Better U (NEW)
   
A.  A free 12 week online program for individuals to transform their health
         with small simple choices.
    B.  Weekly articles for employee newsletter or e-mail distribution

High Blood Pressure
   
A.  Distribute employee education/e-mails on "High Blood Pressure"
          1.  Learn about High Blood Pressure
          2.  Discover why high blood pressure matters
          3.  Understand your risk for developing high blood pressure
          4.  Diagnosis and treatment
          5.  Prevent
    B.  Conduct blood pressure screenings for employees
    C.  Employee Newsletter story
    D.  Optional Activities
          1.  Follow-up blood pressure screening for employees (2-3 months)
