The American Heart Association Council on Epidemiology and Prevention and the Council on Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism will present its second dual conference March 2-5 in San Francisco, Calif. This unique dual program is designed to encourage and promote the development, advancement and exchange of new information about treating and preventing heart disease and stroke.
The Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism 2010 Conference will take place in advance of the 50th Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention Annual Conference. The two conferences will overlap on March 3-4, when programs developed by the program committees of both councils will be presented.
The Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism program will provide participants with the opportunity to learn current information about:
- Relationship of diet, physical activity, obesity and diabetes with vascular disease outcomes.
- Behavioral strategies to promote and sustain lifestyle modifications.
- Advances in measuring diet and physical activity.
- Effects of lifestyle interventions on cardiovascular disease and its risk factors.
- Clinical and population strategies to reduce cardiovascular risk.
- Advanced research techniques that are relevant to the design and conduct of observational studies and clinical trials.
The 50th Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention Conference is designed to present new findings on:
- Population trends in cardiovascular diseases and their risk factors.
- Causes and mechanisms of atherosclerosis and other vascular diseases.
- Results of cardiovascular disease treatment and prevention trials.
- Methods of population surveillance for cardiovascular disease and risk factors.
- Techniques in preventive cardiology.
- Genetic epidemiology for cardiovascular disease and risk factors.
- Nutrition and cardiovascular disease
- Outcomes research in cardiovascular disease

Intended Audience
Both conferences benefit physicians, dietitians, nutritional scientists, exercise physiologists, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurses, school health professionals and other health scientists. The Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention Conference will also appeal to epidemiologists and biostatisticians. The Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism Conference will also focus on work done by molecular and basic researchers.
