Definition and Evaluation of Transient Ischemic Attack -- Summary Page

The annual incidence of transient ischemic attack (TIA) is about 200,000-500,000, with the population prevalence about 2.3% or about 5 million Americans.
10-15% of patients with TIA have a stroke within 3 months and about one half within 48 hours.
TIA is considered an urgent medical issue, with acute treatments available, such as carotid endarterectomy.
