The American Heart Association is working with partners to provide scholarships that allow students to explore the field of cardiovascular research as a career by providing opportunities to work with researchers at Minnesota.
Who is eligible?
Minnesota students only. Applicants must be Minnesota residents and attend a Minnesota college.
Medical School Scholarships:
Each year the American Heart Association awards medical scholarships established by generous Minnesota donors to enable a medical student in pursuing his/her degree in medicine, science and research.
Helen N. & Harold B. Shapira Heart Medical Scholarship description
The Helen N. and Harold B. Shapira Heart Medical Scholarship was established in 1969. The Shapiras were long-time supporters of the American Heart Association. This scholarship assists young men and women pursuing degrees in medicine and science. The scholarship awards one $1,000 scholarship to a medical student currently enrolled in a Minnesota state medical school and working in a curriculum with potential application to patients with diseases of the heart and blood vessel system. application
Howard B. Burchell M.D., Ph.D. Heart Medical Scholarship description
The Howard B. Burchell M.D., Ph.D. Heart Scholarship was established in 1989 as a permanent tribute to the outstanding contributions of Howard B. Burchell, MD, Ph.D. to cardiovascular research and teaching. This scholarship awards $3,000 to a medical student currently enrolled in a Minnesota state medical school. The scholarship will enable a medical student to participate in health science research at a Minnesota institution and to explore the field of research as a career. application
James H. Moller, M.D. Heart Medical Scholarship description
The James H. Moller, M.D. Heart Scholarship was established in 1990 to honor the outstanding, lifelong commitment demonstrated by Dr. Moller to the American Heart Association, This scholarship awards $1,200 to a medical student currently enrolled in a Minnesota state medical school. The scholarship will enable a medical student to participate in health science research at a Minnesota institution and to explore the field of research as a career. application
Undergraduate Scholarship:
Each year the American Heart Association awards a medical scholarship established by generous Minnesota donors to enable an undergraduate student to explore medical research as a career.

In 1969 the Helen N. & Harold B. Shapira Undergraduate Scholarship was established to assist young men and women pursuing degrees in medicine and science. This $1,000 scholarship award is given annually to an undergraduate student enrolled in a four year Minnesota college or university and working in a medically related curriculum with potential application to patients with diseases of the heart and blood vessel system. application
The deadline for applications for all of the scholarships is April 30, 2010. All applications must be submitted electronically.
