It is an honor and privilege to serve the American Heart Association as chair of the Council on Cardiovascular Nursing (CVN). The council is in a strong position to make a difference for the AHA and for the public, patients and providers it serves. In fact, this is the council’s 40th Anniversary year!

In March 1969, the Committee on Nursing Education voted to create a nursing council and the first annual business meeting was held Nov. 15, 1969. Past chairs of the council are listed farther below.                                             

Thanks to these leaders, the CVN Council has grown from a small group focused initially on providing continuing education to an integral AHA council whose goals support the overall AHA mission through:

• Activities related to research and science
• Authorship and leadership on scientific statements
• Advocacy at the national and local levels
• Early career support
• International collaborations

Come celebrate our anniversary with us!

Join us as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the CVN Council.  Learn of its rich history and meet leaders of the council, past and present. Officer elections and brief committee reports will be given, as well as presentations to the 2009 award winners. 

CVN members – watch your inbox for two e-mails from teh AHA, requesting your recommendations for what you think are the best advancements. The ones chosen as the top 10 will be announced and recognized at the CVN Council Dinner.
