American Heart Association Advocacy

Be a part of the cure. Be an advocate

You don't have to be a doctor to save lives. Just be willing to deliver a lifesaving message to public officials whenever you can. Maybe you've already participated with the American Heart Association before by walking in a Heart Walk. Or perhaps you've helped organize a gala event. Maybe you even helped someone survive a heart attack or stroke. At moments like these, You're the Cure. Even if you're someone who wants to get involved for the first time, you can be part of the cure.

You're the Cure when you speak up for vital research funding. Or when you advocate for public policies that advance the fight against heart disease and stroke. That's why You're the Cure, a nationwide network of people dedicated to finding a cure for heart disease and stroke, needs your talent and time...now!

We'll give you what you need to succeed: a welcome packet to get you started. Timely action alerts asking you to call, write or visit policymakers. Education and updates on important issues.

Legislators and policymakers respond to advocates like you. Recent successes include funding for and placement of portable defibrillators in crowded cities and in rural areas. We've helped secure increases in funding that led to medical innovations and helped ensure that important public health programs reached those in need. Our efforts have also led to more smoke-free workplaces and public areas in our nation's cities. We're also advocating for physical education and better nutrition in schools.

But much more is needed to break the grip of our nation's No. 1 and No. 3 killers. Every time you advocate for better health, You're the Cure!

Join today, because you truly don't have to be a doctor to save lives... just an advocate with the American Heart Association and its division, the American Stroke Association.
